Valentin (Vali) Barsan, M.D., is a member of Umoja’s Scientific Advisory Board and has previously served on Umoja’s Board of Directors as representative and consultant for SoftBank. Dr. Barsan is currently a member of the founding team at Kamau Therapeutics which uses homology-directed repair (HDR)–enhanced CRISPR gene editing to precisely correct or replace disease-causing DNA in hematopoietic stem cells.

He is also currently an Attending Physician at the Canary Center for Cancer Early Detection at Stanford University’s School of Medicine, where he previously completed clinical fellowship and was an Instructor in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation. Dr. Barsan completed his residency in Pediatrics at UC San Diego. He holds a B.S. in Bioengineering at University of California San Diego and an M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine.
